Stunning Rustic Desk/Side Table + Thonet Bentwood Chair w/ Vivid Green Detailing
This small, vintage desk or side table and complimentary Thonet bentwood chair have been given a new lease of wife with a vibrant, modern twist. A unique stylish desk ideal for home working in these difficult times with a handy draw to tuck your laptop or tablet away at the end of the day.
This desk is complimented with an antique Thonet bentwood chair, finished to a beautiful standard with a new striking seat pad finished in lime green to compliment the draw colour. The original seat pad was reeded, as can be seen from the holes around the edges. The style has recreated with new ply to match the previous seat pad. The frame has been stripped, sanded and finished with three coats of Danish oil.
The desk/table has been sanded to remove all the old varnish and finished with a lime wax to enhance the colour and grain of the wood. I also made a beautiful drawer to create contrast and juxtaposition with the basic, almost rustic construction by using modern materials and colours - plywood, metal handle and a bright paint finish.
Together, this pair make a unique, vibrant and modern combination whilst still retaining the vintage, antique aesthetic of the original pieces. Thonet chairs are a very desirable piece of design history and can retail up to £200 each.
This would make a great small desk for a bedroom or as a side table for a hallway or bedroom.
